Zodiaque Spring 2023
Presented in show order
Overload
Choreography: Jen Apter
A contemporary piece focused on the idea of the fear of missing out that has been fueled by social media; “When you let go of the struggle to stay afloat, you float” - OM Symphony of Love. The design for this piece focused on isolating different areas of the stage, placing dancers in varying intensities of light. As this fast-paced, high energy piece built and shifted through stages of intensity, the lighting reflected this with differing colors and angles of light.
Manon
Choreography: Angel Mammoliti
Projection Design: Ethan Borrock
Costume Design: Nina Tucker
A contemporary work dedicated to the exploration of the multifaceted capabilities of feminine energy, and the manifestation of that power- within relationships and the individual. The design for this piece followed the gradient of light from mid-day through dawn, beginning with the dancers in a line of stark sunlight, shifting into a full stage dusk, night, dawn, and back to the same line of daylight. Throughout the piece, a projection of the dancers from above played on the cyc, reflecting the idea of a constant observer.
Behind the Curtain
Choreography: Matthew Clark
Costume Design: Juilana Hassouna
Scenic Design: Max Teicher
A comedic tap piece showing that what you see onstage isn’t always what’s going on behind the scenes. The piece began in a backstage setting, establishing the relationships between the dancers while in neutral, full stage lighting. When the piece shifted “onstage”, the lighting became theatrical, colorful, and bright, while continuing to emphasize comedic moments.
An Evening at West Manor
Choreography: Michael Deeb Weaver
Co-Lighting Design with Eve Brunswick
Projection Design: Ethan Borrock
Costume Design: Abby Hankinson
Scenic Design: Max Teicher
A contemporary musical theatre-style work inspired by classical murder mystery movies. Set at a 1930’s dinner party, each dancer played a unique role as the narrative unfolded, following an evening full of mystery and drama. The design aimed to support the plot of the piece, emphasizing key moments, moods, and character relationships.
Prism
Choreography: Kerry Ring
Costume Design: Delia Mandik
A contemporary ballet piece inspired by refraction, reflection, and dispersion in nature, celebrating the joy and beauty of color and light. The design for this piece focused on the fractured nature of prismatic light, with alternating usage of the cyc, texture, various colors, full stage, and isolated looks. Haze was also used to support the visibility of beams of light.
