Design Process

An individual’s process is an essential part of their design work. An important part of my process is taking physical notes, allowing me to quickly write down my thoughts and maintain my focus in the space without distraction by the light from screens. This page illustrates my process with documents I used before and during tech.

Pre-Tech Notes

Prior to tech I like to watch the piece several times and take notes on the blocking and musical changes. From these notes and discussions with the choreographer I create a preliminary cue list from the key moments in the piece. Unfortunately many of my notes from shows were lost when one of my notebooks was stolen, but I luckily still have some of these notes from Choreolab, shown below.

Tech and Dress Rehearsals

During tech and dress rehearsals, I typically print out a new cue sheet before each rehearsal to take notes one. This allows me to stay organized, and look back at notes from previous days to make sure everything has been addressed.
